Wheeler Cabin

Overlooking a serene ravine close to the Oregon coast, this 1,000 square foot house takes advantage of its south-facing site to create a glorious private sanctuary in the forest. The steep topography left only a very limited area on which to place the house. Despite this challenge, the structure treads lightly on the steep and beautiful site. The owners, who are avid bird watchers, wanted a large deck that would almost float in the trees and provide a perfect perch to observe the forest. Locally harvested wood was used inside and out.
